Not so long ago, the use of thermography was prohibitively expensive. Well funded R&D labs could afford it, but the use of the technology as standard quality assurance tool in production environment was unthinkable.
Seems, that these times have changed with the advance of new sensor technology. More data for a better price.
Only recently, we covered two interesting applications: quality control in the solar cell production and weld seam/weld spot control in the automotive industry.
The first can be viewed as e-paper or downloaded at
www.inspect-online.com print edition #2, the latter is available as AUTOMATICA vision forum presentation directly accessible on the portal´s start page.
Since thermography provides the possibility to look below the surface or inside a structure, I wonder when it will be possible to provide the quality control of adhesive joints with this technology.
